Review of the new game mouse Steelseries Rival 5 with a pleasant specialness

Steelseries Rival 5 is a continuation of the famous series of gaming mice, which received a release this year. This is a symmetrical functional wired mouse, which, however, is suitable only for right-handed people.

It comes in an orange box, on the front side of which there is an image of a mouse and a sticker mentioning the award “Best Gaming Device” from the publication IGN. The end of the package lists some of the characteristics and contains information that Steelseries Rival 5 is compatible with MAC, Windows, and Linux. At the back, the main features are described, among which an excellent sensor, nine programmable buttons, and a lightweight – only 85 grams.

The equipment is modest. Opening the box, you will see the device itself and the user manual with a warranty card – everything is standard here.

As soon as you take rival 5 in your hand, you get a nice feeling of a high-quality device. The mouse gives the impression of a monolithic device, does not creak or crunch when manipulated. Plastic is not covered with soft-touch spraying, but it is not the cheapest. The cable is soft, dressed in a nice fabric braid. The design of the product is slightly aggressive but in moderation. The wheel is rubberized and perforated for easy scrolling. It has obvious cut-offs when used.

The mouse lies comfortably in the hand, it is designed for grasping with a full palm, while for the “claw” it is not very suitable – slightly massive. Under the thumb, there are as many as four buttons. However, the silver one is too far away, so it is not very convenient to press it and during the game, I was uncomfortable using it. Perhaps people with longer fingers will be more comfortable – the question is individual.

I was pleased with the click of all mouse buttons – it is muted and pleasant. But the most interesting point in Rival 5 is the long button under the thumb. It is more of a mini-toggle switch that switches up and down. In games, it is very convenient to hang two actions on it to swipe up or down to activate them. A fresh, cool, and successful solution that distinguishes the product from competitors.

The case is pierced by several LED RGB lines, which are customizable in proprietary software. The Steelseries logo and wheel are highlighted. According to the standard settings, the colors are switched depending on the selected DPI mode, but the most interesting thing is that a white pulse passes throughout the Body of the Rival 5 when the buttons are pressed. In the dark, it looks very impressive – everything is regulated in branded software to your taste.

The mouse sensor received a good one, from Pixart – remove air. We did not find any problems, we could not disrupt it, the accuracy is at the level of up to 18,000 DPI with change increments of 100 units.

Steelseries Rival 5 is an exemplary mouse that has interesting innovations. I liked its shape, which fits perfectly under the full grip of the palm of the right hand. I was pleased with an interesting solution with a trigger button and interactive lighting.

I can recommend it to those who are thinking about a new gaming device on an ongoing basis. The price of Rival 5 starts from 6500 price, which is quite reasonable money for such a high-quality and fresh device. But note that left-handed people will not be very comfortable using it.
