Announced portable console AYANEO Next on AMD Ryzen 7 5800U processor

The Chinese company AYANEO announced during ces 2022 a new generation of its portable game console.

The device called AYANEO Next received an AMD Ryzen 7 5800U processor with Radeon Vega graphics, up to 32 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, and up to 2 TB of PCIe NVMe memory.

The form factor hasn’t changed. This is still the same monolithic body with a 7-inch IPS touchscreen display and blocks of game buttons, but the sides of the console have become more rounded and have received an anatomical grip. In addition, the developers finalized the design of the controllers, added Hall sensors to triggers and joysticks, interchangeable sticks, improved tactile feedback with a new vibration motor, and built a fingerprint sensor into the power button. There is also support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

At the time of launch, four different versions of AYANEO Next will be available:

AYANO Next with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of memory at $ 1315 in retail and $ 1265 for depositors;
AYANO Next Advance with 16 GB of RAM and 2 TB of memory at $ 1465 in retail and $ 1365 for depositors;
AYANO Next Advance Signature Edition with 16 GB of RAM and 2 TB of memory for $ 1465 in retail and $ 1345 for depositors (the circulation is limited to 300 units);
AYANO Next Pro with 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of memory for $ 1565 in retail and $ 1465 for depositors (only 500 units in the first batch).

Overall, AYANEO Next and Next Pro look like a comprehensive update to the original AYANEO thanks to the transition from the Ryzen 4000U series chips on the Zen 2 architecture to the Ryzen 7 5800U processor on the Zen 3 architecture, but both “stones” have similar integrated AMD Radeon Vega graphics.

This makes the moment of the announcement of AYANEO Next not very successful since the announcement coincided with the presentation of the new mobile processors AMD Ryzen 6000 on the Zen 3 + architecture with RDNA 2 graphics, which is expected to provide twice the performance. The company said that they did not use AMD Ryzen 6000 in favor of a faster launch, since the expectation of deliveries of the new chip may drag on until the end of this year. The first deliveries of the console are expected no earlier than the end of March after the global crowdfunding campaign, which will start next month.

The manufacturer’s official website also lists some early performance tests done in the lab. According to them, AYANEO Next pulls The Witcher 3 with an average speed of 27 frames per second at high settings or 41 frames per second at average, while for Cyberpunk 2077 the figures range from 23.1 FPS at high settings to 38.2 frames per second at low settings. In Forza Horizon 5, the console delivers 42.3 frames per second at high settings or 67.1 frames per second at medium.
